Faculty Library Guide: Borrowing Materials

This guide provides an overview of Library services and resources for faculty.

Your Library ID Number

Your GU ID card serves as your Library card to check out books and other resources as well as the key to accessing all of our online resources remotely.

You'll notice that the ID# on your card starts with 24511.  This number is only used by the Library and MUST be used in all Library-related transactions, including using our online article databases and requesting books via I-Share.

If you don't have a GU ID card, your Library ID# is 24511 + your 9-digit college ID number which you use to access D2L.

Borrowing Materials

Faculty may borrow books and other materials from the GU Library as well as from libraries in the state and around the world.

A Greenville ID Card or Driver's License must be presented at the Circulation Desk to borrow materials.  Faculty loan period for GU Library books is 12 weeks, CDs 4 weeks, DVDs and videos 1 week.

Faculty also have access to I-Share, a shared library catalog for 90 colleges and universities in Illinois.  To request books from other I-Share libraries, faculty members should create an I-Share account so that they can request materials from other I-Share libraries.  A courier service delivers I-Share materials within 3-8 business days. I-Share books are checked out for 4 weeks, and then they can be renewed up to 3 times by logging into the faculty member's GU Library Catalog account.

When what you want isn't available through the GU or I-Share Catalogs, you can check WorldCat and submit interlibrary loan requests there as well.  Borrowing periods for WorldCat libraries vary depending on the lending library, but they are generally shorter than through I-Share.
