What is an Attribution Statement?

All Creative Commons licenses require users to attribute the creator of licensed material by listing the author's name. Depending on the version, it is recommended/required to provide the title of the work. You must also indicate if you have modified the work. It is not necessary to note trivial alterations, such as correcting a typo or changing a font size. You must also retain an indication of previous modifications to the work.

When is an Attribution Statement not needed?

When an item is considered in the Public Domain, no Attribution Statement is needed.
